West Jefferson County Historical Society: Established in 1973, West Jefferson County Historical Society is governed by a board of directors which meets monthly and has an annual meeting of a general membership in April. Membership is open to the public (membership form link). Communication with the membership is through newsletter. The Society has the responsibility of preserving and maintaining three pioneer homes which were donated to it shortly after its establishment. All three homes are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The mission: To stimulate interest in and increase the knowledge of history. The Society shall accomplish this by facilitating a variety of educational experiences for the public using tours, lectures, artistic and cultural demonstrations, and presentations of historical objects, structures, and sites, and the stewardship of these treasures for the public. West Jefferson County Historical Society is tax exempt under 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
